I know I've posted a lot of GPU related questions lately , but which one is the better card at 1080p between the GTX 970 and R9 390 non-X (They're in the same price range ). And please don't tell me to get a R9 290X as the R9 290X=Gtx970=R9 390 when it comes to price here .

I'd say 970

I'd go for the 970

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=2438&gid2=2264&compare=geforce-gtx-970-4gb-vs-radeon-r9-390  At 1080p the 970 is just like 1-2 percent better it seems depending on the game, but the 390 will likely stomp it at higher resolutions.

Are the drivers out yet for the R9 390 ? And if they aren't , won't the drivers make it better ?

Drivers are out. Technically, it will make it better (not necessarily better than a 970) in the long run, but there's no telling how much it will improve. It's not a new GPU, so it's not like the drivers will be completely different either. AMD has had loads of time to work on the drivers with the R9 200 series, so I doubt it will improve much more.

The current drivers support the 3xx cards both full and beta.  They both have DX12 support, and you can OC manually in the drivers the 390.  But, the 390 has better higher resolution performance than the 970.  But, at 1080p the 970 is like 1-2 percent better.  So, take that into consideration.

So I am much better off with the 970 eh ? Even though I don't think I will be able to upgrade to a newer card in 2 years .

If you only stick to 1080p yes, but the 390 will get you better higher res with only 1-2perecent less performance at 1080p.  Honestly, I'd go with the 390 for that reason alone.  But, if you don't ever go to 2-8k then the 970 would be better

Well if I ever go to 1440p or higher , I would get some other video card, not the 970 , I will only play at 1080p as that's the max resolution the monitor allows me to play on ...

Then go with whatever is cheaper since the FPS difference isn't even past 1-2% difference.  If you can afford it though, and don't care about the savings then go wit the 970.

I assumed the x ones were new chipsets while the non-x ones were complete rebrands.

The only reason I asked the question is because I saw this video :

and it seems like the R9 390 is the superior card even at 1080p.

Technically the 390 is because of the stronger higher res support, but sometimes Game-Debate is wrong.  If the guy is a good source on the matter then he knows more than I do.  Then again he's comparing 2 different versions of the cards, so let me check those specific ones out.

Ok I am waiting for your response .

Okay, so here is what I found out.  He compared the MSI gaming 390 to the slowest EVGA 970 aka this one.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NI647NE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00NI647NE&linkCode=as2&tag=instafuze-20&linkId=DVN7NHBY45QABLZT  Which, ya the 390 kinda stomps.  There are 970s that stomp or are equal to that 390 at 1080p.  The one he reviewed isn't much of an option anyone since the 2.0 replaced it.  The 2.0 FTW Superclocked is equal to the MSI gaming 390.  The 1.0=less than the 390.  But, higher EVGA ones are slightly better, but the FPS increase is still only like 1-2 percent at 1080p, and you won't even notice that much of a difference.  So, in honesty just go with whatever one is cheaper unless that highly hard to tell difference matters that much to you.

Ok , that's why the Gtx 970 lost in so many games , now I understand .I think that I will go with the Gtx 970 , as I only owned Nvidia cards , so I kinda trust them , and thank you all for your help ,

Even with 3.5gb of ram, the 970 still put out the R9 390's fire (no pun intended).

It's a tough year for AMD.

But since the Gtx 970 beats the 390 , I don't think it will be a big difference between the 970 and the 390 X right ?

So that's a reliable review site right ?
