Nvidia HD audio driver

Go to solution Solved by 1Scotty1,

So having it installed makes no difference to sound quality? Thought it might interfere with the drivers installed for my on-board audio.

If you are using on-board audio or a dedicated sound card, the NVidia HD audio is completely unnecessary ;)

Hey all,

Not sure if I'm in the right place but hey ho.

Is this driver necessary? I've installed it every time I've updated my graphics driver but never really thought about it. Is it mandatory to install this driver and as a result will it effect the sound quality of games through headphones? As it stands now I have both this and my discrete on-board audio drivers installed.

Would I be better off without it? Or is it fine the way it is?

Thanks

No, it is only necessary, when you are using a TV for a monitor like me for example, which has built-in speakers, so the audio can pass through the HDMI

If I didn't install it, I wouldn't have audio from the TV

It's pointless to install if you aren't going to use it, but it wouldn't cause any problems. If you installed it the two would co-exist peacefully, provided you have the correct one set as the system default output device in the Sound control panel. It would just be sitting around doing nothing, though, of course.

I think I have three audio devices installed at the moment: my discrete sound card, onboard audio, and Nvidia audio.
