Windows 10 Software Questions.

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

If you upgrade your current Windows to Windows 10, then you wont' have to re-install your programs, or worry about loss of data. Windows Upgrade got pretty good these days.

Usually the common reason for failure are:

-> Registry cleaner was used on the system

-> System tweak tool was used

-> Non Genuine Windows was used.

-> Unsupported hardware or driver version has bug in the upgrade process

-> Security Software thinks an attack has occurred on the system and corrupts the upgrade process causing a failure by trying to block it.

It is best to not clean the registry, beside there are 0 benefits in doing so. Registry is a database, and doesn't slow down as you have more stuff in it, per se.

Make sure all your drivers for every hardware you have are fully updated. If you are unsure about a specific hardware, uninstall its drivers, and unplug it from your system, and plug it back once Windows 10 is installed. This is mostly a concern for old hardware or hardware with iffy drivers.

And best and recommended to:  uninstall your A/V and any other security software and restart, before starting the upgrade process. You can install them back once in Windows 10.

Like I said, usually the process is is not a problem, even if you used a registry cleaner, especially in later version of Windows, but you never know, as they are billions of possibilities in terms of what was done on the system and configurations. So it could crap out, and I expect to hear stories of many people having no problem upgrading, while others not so much. And it is always common to have people with problem complain, and not say a anything if it works.

In the case it craps out, to avoid data loss, it is also best to do a backup of all your files BEFORE starting the upgrade process, just to put luck on your side. Beside, there is a no harm in doing a backup, and probably gives you a reason to do one, if you are not already doing it.

Hey guys, this may seem like a fairly obvious answer, by I honestly don't know what it is. Would I be able to use software from windows 8 if I upgraded to windows 10? Like could I still play games like CSGO on windows 10? Or run programs like Uplay or Rockstar Social Club? Thanks in advance,

-Matt

just the place you install the OS, but some programs on the HDD might get confused since the registry is going to be all screwy being its a fresh os, but steam and the things it manages is robust enough to take care of this problem,

Don't be in a rush to upgrade... Wait till there is something specific on windows 10 that you want / need to in order to use (like a DX12 title)

First 6 months - year of a windows launch is generally a pain in the butt with drivers, applications and then security and vulnerability issues.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P
