Can't reach previous overclock.

few weeks ago, i could achieve a stable overclock of 4.4GHz with my g3258 with msi z97i ac and a cooler master seidon 120xL. but now i could only overclock up to a stable 4GHz. does anybody know whats the problem? i didn't tweak or update anything. is the problem the g3258 or the motherboard? thanks in advance :3

Have you maybe changed anything with the voltage?

The a slim chance that the old voltage may have degraded the chip slightly. What voltage were you running at previously?

 

Anything above 1.3V is deemed dangerous/degrading, but achievable for a chip like the G3258, which runs very cool

the voltage could have degraded the chip a little, but that would usually be fixed by going from 4.4 to 4.3 GHz.

This sounds like you've changed some other setting.

Check your voltage, and check if voltage is set to adaptive or fixed.

Thanks for the replies but I didn't even change the voltage while overclocking it to 4.4ghz, everything is in stock config. I just changed the value of the multiplier. Nothing else.

You changed the multiplier and left the volts on stock?

Looks like a voltage bump is in order if as you say that you did not do this previously....... just a thought.
