No wireless while on battery

My Grandmother asked me a question about her computer today. She said that her laptop connect to the WiFi while plugged in but as soon as she unplugs it and is going off the battery it won't connect. I suggested to her that it may be a power plan setting. She followed my instructions but it still won't connect while on battery. Does anyone have experience with this, or any suggestions on what to try?

I've never heard of this, it is very strange.

Check again yourself, with the older generation you can never be to sure about techsupport.

 

there is a way windows dissables the wifi by some kind of hot-key or something, but that usually shuts down the entire wifi and not only on battery mode.

This is probably better suited for the troubleshooting section, 'cause I don't think it's network related but more software [bIOS ?] related. Post there, Windows gurus are surely going to be of greater help.

That could be it. It's hard cause she lives on the other coast so I'll have to use team viewer or something and check it out myself. I'll give this a try and let you know if it works.

That did the trick. I did the change and she unplugged and I was still in remote control. However I disconnected and 30 seconds later she called me back and said it disconnected again  :angry:  So it worked for the minute we talked after doing the change and then cut out again. I don't even know what to ask your help for...

Btw, you can use this version of team viewer requiring no install. Pretty handy !

Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click on your wifi adapter and click on properties > Power Management tab > uncheck disable this device for saving power

Not that I know of. I'm sure she would've mentioned it. I'll ask her but I'm pretty sure she doesn't.
