MSI GTX 960 2GD5T OC vs MSI R9 380 2GD5T OC which one is better?

hello everyone,

 

i'm quite new to building pc's but i have a build in mind. The only thing i need to do is chose a video card. because the build will be black/white (with a little blue) and on a budget I chose these two cards.

But i want to know which one is better for 1080p gaming (the price difference doesn't matter)

 

if anything isn't clear feel free to ask

R9 280 you can find cheaper. If you want you could go on Craigslist, find one and contact the seller. Ask him if he could set the card up in a system so,you know it works ect ect.. Ask if you could play a game. I found a $400 PC, An i3-3220, r9 270x, 16gbs of ram, 600gb HDD which could easily be expanded, all inside a 300r. A 650w PSU and a MSI mobo, I forget what one.

They're both good, get whichever's cheaper. If they're the same then 960 for the lower power consumption and heat output compared to the 380 (285).

What's the price gap? If it's minimal the R9 380 would be better for it's 4GB of VRAM.

 

The GTX 960 also comes with 4GB vRAM as an option.

A GTX 960 4gb is useless. Misewell get a 280x which will get you better frames per second in just about any game.

You can still find them lol. Craigslist is your friend. Read my first post of what I found on Craigslist for $400. You could find a card better then a GTX 960 4gb. I beleive yesterday someone had a post of a GTX 970 they found for $270 brand new never opens.

you could always buy a black one and add white color schemes to it. It's not that had.

EDIT- The r9 380 is like a r9 285 with a few upgrades. Also turns out this one is black and white. If you want you could get the 4gb version but that would require modding the GPU to be black and white which isn't to hard. It's still around your budget.

Nope. I'd just go for that r9 380. It will get you to 60fps at 1080p pretty easily and match your color scheme.

btw, the r9 has more bits than the gtx does this mean it is better, because the gtx has a higher gpu speed and higher memory speed.

The r9 380 will get more FPS then the GTX 960 2/4gb. The 4gb 960 doesn't effect how good the card is. But all I know is 280s were around the SAme as a GTX 960 and the r9 380 is like a little overclocked r9 285. You'll get more FPS per dollar with the r9 380.
