2011-3 vs 1150 socket questions!

Go to solution Solved by Catchem,

Socket 2011-3 is Intel's HEDT platform, it will not get cheaper, even when Skylake is release. Want the cheaper platform, then go with Skylake.

Thanks mate, makes sense. Ill probably Build on the z97-a board.

Thanks all for the help.

Hello Linus Community,

I'm in the process of organizing my components for a new PC build in August 2015

My old gaming pc is 5 years old and reached its Best before date.

My main Question is, How does the old 97 intel 1150 boards compare to the Newer 2011-3 socket boards, should i bite the bullet and buy a lower end 2011-3 setup or get the higher end 1150 setup, (is the change in newer generation worth the extra cost for a casual budget gamer.

Going 1150 over 2011-3 saves me +$400 but i don't want to be in a situation where trying to upgrade in the future will result in a whole new system again.

I'm looking at a build that will last me at least 2 years before i spend more money on it.

Ill list my Current Build and with price, reusing 250gb Samsung SSD, 2 x 1tb HDD, Asus Phoebus sound card.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Catchem

If you're waiting for August, wait 1-2 more months for Skylake, the next Intel CPU rumoured to be released and will be a new architecture and new socket with new tech as well.  Might as well wait awhile longer :D
