I have a question about RAM, keep in mind I'm fairly new to PC building. How much RAM should I get for my build? And what brand would you guys recommend? I currently have a intel i7 4790K, MSI Z97 gaming 7 mobo, and a corsair carbide 300R (for what it's worth). I plan on using my rig for gaming and possibly some music and video editing in the future.

Go with a single stick of 8GB to start off. Then upgrade as you see fit. G.Skill is a great brand to buy RAM from.

Would 8GB be good for gaming?

Right now, yes.

If you can afford a 16 gb kit go with that, if you find it isn't enough you can always add more. If 16gb is out of your budget then godlygamer23 is right. A single 8gb stick.

Gskill, crucial, and corsair are a few great brands

That's awesome. Now I just got figure out a speed that would be suitable for my build.

Ram speed doesn't translate into real world performance in most cases. A good middle ground would be 1866 mhz with decent latency like cas 9.

If you go for 8 gigs then get 2x4gb sticks

8GBx1 would be best for upgradability. The extra bandwidth provided by dual channel would likely never be felt.
