Questions:

How much will PCI 2.0 x1 decrease performance over x16, if any?

Any good pci risers that are long?

Will a x1 lose any performance in an x16? No, it'll just use the power and bandwith it needs.

Any PCI risers will do the job really.

great becasue i found these really cool ones

http://www.amazon.com/Powered-Extender-Litecoin-Bitcoin-Mining/dp/B00HZ0M9F2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

uses a USB 3.0 cable.

Performance loss would be pretty massive, that's if it works in the first place.

oh really?

Thats a shame

Actually, I just presumed,  but from looking online, apparently for bitcoin mining risers like the one you suggested are OK. Can't find shit about gaming tho'.

Also, apparently you only need powered risers for risers that are 19cm> in length, but don't quote me on that, it's just what a guy said on a bitcoin forum.

Yeah i was trying to figure it out. I found a chart saying pcie 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0, and x16, x8, and x4. I assume 1.1 x4 is similar to 2.0 x1 (more like x2, but close enough) and it says it has 80% of the performance of x16 pci 2.0

Hmm. Seems to be an interesting subject then. I'm tempted to buy a riser just to see how it works now :P

Yeah im trying to build my computer inside an emac, and the GPU just doesnt fit. i want to get the x1 riser instead of a normal x16 riser, so i can have much more fleibility of where i place it. Cant really do that with the big ribbon cable of x16.

I think ill try it.

If you have the money, and are willing to expect disappointment, then go for it. Worst case scenario, you've carried out an interesting experiment.

Yeah, i mean, the whole thing is an experiment, and its only 6$.

Im putting a PC in a AIO computer, its cool no matter what.

Also, i beileive that guy with the tiny watercooled PC that was like rediuclesly small had a x1 to x16 and used a 970, and said it didnt impact it much.
