Windows Upgrade License?

I picked up a copy of Windows 8.1 since my college professor mother was able to get a great discount on it. The intent is to use it when I get a new motherboard and CPU when Skylake is released. They've sent me the product key, but the email says it is for the Windows 8.1 Professional Upgrade. The website did not say anything about it being an "upgrade."

 

What are the rules with a Windows upgrade license? Am I going to be able to clean-install Windows 8.1 from an ISO and activate it with this code?
