Ive been running off a single 8gb stick for a while since one of them appears to have just flat out died.

Few Months Ago (no money to RMA at the time, though im taking that route now)

Opened PC to clean out a fan, grounded myself all that jazz, removed ram to blow out the dust, put ram right back in same sticks same slots.
Plug everything in, pushed it back into its place on the shelf andddddddd it refused to start. At all. No fans, no beeps, nothing, It will not start when this particular stick of ram is inserted.

Tested the stick in all the slots. No go. Tested other stick in all slots. every single one was fine with the stick im currently running on.

Id just like to know how on earth it can go from working fine, to refusing to boot when plugged in.   It also screwed my friends windows and bios when plugged into his PC to test the stick.

So what on earth happened?

>Stick works fine
>Shut down PC
>Remove stick
>Put back in
>PC wont power on at all with this stick in it
>Other one is perfectly fine
>WHAT?

It may have gotten a zap when outside of the case / in storage while dusting.

The stick is broken if the other one works perfectly fine in all slots.

Yeah but only one of the sticks?

Is very likely to happen. An electric arc chooses the simplest way to Ground. That way your Ram stick. After the ESD, you are discharged, so the second stick didn't get zapped.
