After a few years of dealing with a crappy laptop, I am finally planning to build my own PC. Some of my friends recommended this website to me, to help me get started. After watching a few LinusTechTips videos, I began my search for parts. My budget is around 3,000 USD. So far these are my parts:

Case:

Noctis 450 - Black + Red

($139.99)

Heatsink/Cooling System: Hydro Series™ H100i Extreme Performance CPU Cooler

($119.99)

Power Supply:

EVGA Super NOVA 550 GS Power Supply

($89.99)

Case Fans:

Front: 2x Radiator Fans (Comes With Cooling), 1x 120mm FN V2 (Comes With Case)

Rear: 1x 140mm FN V2 (Comes With Case)

Top: 3x 120mm FN V2 (Comes With Case)

Drivers:

4x Seagate SSHD 1TB (For a raid 10 configuration)

Looks great!

Instead of getting a SSHD, get a SSD for your OS and programs (120-250GB) and a 4tb HDD for what ever else.

First time poster too! Welcome to the Forum.

Please tell us your budget and location and what you're wanting to do with the build.

What you've chosen is pretty solid but I'd have to recommend a higher wattage power supply, as well as an SSD and an HDD instead of an SSHD.

Sig under construction.

A 120GB-256GB SSD + 1TB HDD is the standard for gaming builds and much better than your hybrid 4TB drive for $300... why do you need 4TB?

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($88.41 @ Amazon)
Total: $178.40
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

What kind of display do you have?  1080p?  1440p? etc.. 144Hz?

EVGA's SuperNova GS series (650W or 550W, both will do) are super cheap. Get either of those, whichever is cheaper as both will have enough wattage by a long shot.

For the drives get an OCZ Arc 100 120GB or maybe something of a larger size of 240-256GB and a storage drive like a Caviar Blue or Barracuda alongside it.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I ment 4 1tb sshd, on raid 10 mode, for 2 tb

I will look into that power supply, but how many of each drive should i get for a raid 10? 2 ssd and 2 hhd or 3ssd 1 hdd, or vise versa?

What is the purpose for RAID?  Just the raw speed?  Don't RAID the SSD, it is fast enough (a good one).  By all means grab two 3TB Seagates and run them in RAID, but does that not double your chance at file corruption?

Again, what kind of display do you have, or planning to get?

raid 10 is a hybrid of raids 1 and 0 (raid 10 = 1+0), twice as reliable as raid 1 and as fast as raid 0

I kinda wanna set a raid 10 config, so i would need 4 drives

btw, i changed my power supply to a EVGA Super NOVA 550 GS Power Supply

($89.99)

My question is why?  SSDs are super fast, hard drives come with a massive amounts of storage.  So what do you gain?

Good PSU.

Reliability, raid 10's are perfect, even if 2 drives crash and burn, i will still be able to keep all my data and run my pc normally

Good PSU choice, I have that very PSU :)

If the 650W happens to be the same price or cheaper when you buy all this then don't hesitate to buy it. HDDs use lots of wattage and, although I'm sure you'll be fine with 550W, another 100W can't hurt. If you want RAID then I just am not the person to talk to, unfortunately. I stick with 2 total drives, one SSD and one storage drive, so this is not my subject.

You can get a 550W PSU for cheaper, or a higher wattage for the same or maybe a little bit more. I would get a little more because you have some serious hardware. Better to have too much than not enough.

Thanks for the advise anyways! if the drives take up more watts than i expected, ill consider the extra power

So you are doubling your drives for reliablity?  hmm, interesting...

You would need something like this?:

Do you work for the CIA or something?  Drives are pretty reliable, how sensitive is your data?

i have seen that, but from the reviews of the EVGA Super NOVA 550 GS Power Supply ($89.99) it seems to be safer than a few others

3.25 tb is a bit much for a gaming pc dont you thing?

That is a good unit (Seasonic OEM)... STRM makes a good point as the 650W version is the same price.

I might need to add the extra 100watts, so ill consider it

Dang, that means ill need to transfer it through a flash drive, thanks for the heads up.

No problem. Personally here's what I'd go for http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Vw3RXL Could make those 1tb drives and save $100ish if you want.

EDIT- http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kBvRXL This would be just as good.

It was just an example...

Like I said a 256GB + 1TB HDD is usually the standard.  I only run a 240SSD with drives sitting in my desk drawer.  I connect them with a USB adapter when I need them, then pop them back in the drawer.  My system is quieter that way.
