I would definitely recommend bit defender over other alternatives such as malwarebytes.

As far as I'm aware malwarebytes does not provide real time protection unlike other full alternatives.

I personally use a paid for Bit Defender endpoint. However the free version provides just as much protection and it extremely light weight in my view considering how good it is.

I did use Avast in the past however it was just to resource hungry when I was trying to game.

If it installed the browser extension, then I would suggest you uninstall it.

For me the endpoint version is extremely light and I would assume the free version is as well, although I can't be sure as I have never used it. Here is what mine look's like.

Using this I can have a full virus scan running, while making no impact to my device while gaming / running applications.
