I need your help here on the forums. My laptop won't charge anymore as the charging port I believe it is broken. This is the 2nd time this has happened, so I was wondering if it is worth fixing once again. I also in the process would have to buy a new battery and charger for the laptop as they are busted. in total it would cost me about 200 usd to fix and get everything working again. The laptop is about 3.5 years old and starting to get a little sluggish. I was wondering should I fix the laptop and just keep using it or should I buy a replacement one because it will most likely happen again. I am going into my senior year in high school starting in august and plan on getting a sick college ready computer next year but until then I don't know what to do. My school gives out Chromebooks out to the students and we are allowed to keep them until graduation and that is how I'm writing this, but it doesn't replace my windows machine. Thanks

Unplug the battery, does it stay on?

If so, more than likely it's just your battery - you can get a replacement from ANKER on amazon for dirt cheap - same for charger.

no for me to charge the laptop before this problem I had to put the charger in a certain position. The laptop would turn off if I didn't have it plugged in all the time. I don't know if this is reliable, but even windows warned about my battery.

Sorry, I should have explained better.

If you take out the battery, and only use the AC adapter, does it work fine?

If not, what part are you wiggling/holding in the right position, the plug where it plugs into the computer, or, somewhere else on the AC adapter

Q1)No it does not work fine. I have to hold the plug that goes into the computer in a certain position like I have to keep it pointing up.

Okay, sorry for the preliminary questions.

As you have said, you will more than likely need to get the jack fixed on the laptop ($$$), a new battery (a bad jack and on off charging etc will kill a battery fast), and likely a new AC adaptor.

In my opinion, no, it's not worth fixing. After all that is done, thats $250+ down the drain on an old laptop. I used to work at a repair shop and did jack repairs alot.

In mosty cases, if the repairs were worth more than half the cost of an equivalent new laptop, or, they planned on a new laptop soon anyway... I would not reccomend this.

Alright thanks if I came off as harsh. I will go over my options and make decision which will most likely bring me back here to the forums lol. Once again thanks d3sl91 you were amazing.
