I'll just open this by saying I'm a complete newbie to the PC building world. You have been warned.

Right now I'm interested in getting the intel i7 4790K, alongside an ASUS Z97-WS motherboard. However, on intel's ark page, it says 'Intel® processors come in four different types: a Single Channel, Dual Channel, Triple Channel, and Flex Mode.' in regards to RAM. It specifies DDR3 1333/1600 are supported (which I understand), but do I need to consider the number of channels the processor supports when considering my RAM and motherboard options? I'm left feeling a little confused. Does this mean I need to make sure the amount of channels supported by the CPU match the number of slots on the motherboard? If I use the 4970K with the ASUS Z79-WS, will everything be okay? Will I be able to fill all the RAM slots, if I need to?

Sorry if these are dumb questions....

Everything will be fine. Yes you can fill the RAm slots if you need to. Just make sure you get a matched kit of RAM, and all will be fine. (And obviously you can't get more than 4 sticks).

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.
