mATX on SPEC-01 and other 1150-based questions

I'll be building a $1000 Corsair-themed rig, but questions are bugging me quite a while:

 

1. Aesthetic-wise, would a mATX board be good at SPEC-01? 

1.5. Would I get an ATX board that will only house a single PCI slot for the GPU, or go mATX?

2. Is there a wide performance result if I use H97 than a Z87? Though I'm not planning to overclock a good i5-4690K, or at the most, overclock it to +1 GHz

3. What's the function of other 1150 boards like B, H, and Z series. (B85, H87, H97, Z87, Z97 to be exact)

This is a atx system with a matx board. presonally i like an atx board in an atx tower and matx board in matx tower. Across all chipsets you wont see much performance increase in any games, and h97 and z87 are very similar, only difference is h97 has supoport for broadwell but no official ocing. 

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

So H97 is newer than a Z87/Z97 board? Though I won't be doing quick upgrades to my system. I'm most likely sticking to 4690K for 3 years or so.

 

RE mATX + mid tower: I can hide the cables easier with a SPEC-01, right? I'll be also using a semi-modular PSU (CX500M)

H97 and z97 are equally new. The difference is z97 has official ocing and h97 has ocing but not official. With the hiding cables, you will probobaly have an easier time with atx you can hide cables behind the mobo (not tray). Also with matx there will be a blank spot in your case
