a month ago i installed a fresh copy of windows on a new ssd and i bought a 1tb wd green drive today to add storage. i installed it and turned my pc on and it wouldnt come up in my computer. i tried it twice without any success. i then decided to mess around with settings in the bios and i changed around the modes such as ide and ahci and i changed the legacy and uefi to uefi only annd legacy. after playing around with these settings my computer wouldnt even boot into windows anymore it would just put me in the repairing loop. i then booted into safe mode and refreshed windows and i literally just installed my lan driver. i finnaly got my computer to work but i am still faced with the problem of the hdd. i still need to install it. Please Help i know installing the hdd is a very easy task but it just wont work for me.

Go to your storage management. You need to initialize the HDD before you can format/use it.

Try your hdd in another pc in the house

it might be dead

ill try that but i can hear it turn on. i was thinking it was more of a problem about which sata port its plugged into.

also can i plug in an internal drive while my pc is on or not

There's usually an pop-up message to initialize whatever drive is hooked up but the system needs to be restarted first. Did you reboot before you accessed storage management? If so and if a popup is saying it failed to initialized, the HDD maybe DOA.

Edit:typo

there was no message and no fail popup. literally no acknowledgement of its existence

Does BIOS show it? If yes, its working ok. If no, its either DOA or cables aren't tight. After that you will need to format and sign letter to it. There are many free, paid and bootable tools for that. Like win install thing. It also should show up in disk management.
