RAM Compatibility Drives Me Nuts!

Go to solution Solved by ZetZet,

ddr2 is not going to work in ddr3 slot how hard is it to understand that haha.

Also laptops use completely different slots too.

Hi.

I have an Asus Z97-C motherboard. (1150 slot)

I also have 4GB of DDR2 memory salvaged from a laptop. (Two Sticks 2GB each)

Will the two be compatible, and will they be compatible if I then bought 16GB (Two stick 8GB each) DDR3?

Thanks

Ed

In addition to laptop RAM generally being of the OSDIMM variety, which is significantly different to desktop RAM, DDR2's notch is in a different location. So no, the laptops RAM won't work for you.
