Hi everyone i have a planet fsd-804. On network and sharing the other pc's in the lan party show up. But in minecraft and quake 3 lan games dont show up so we cant play. When connecting directly from 1 pc to another it works. I had it working at a lan party a year ago. Any help please. Need this switch to work in games not just network sharing

Thanks

Unless the switch is assigning IPs or you have another device connected to the switch that is handling that, I'd guess that is your problem.

Nvm, fixd it by manual ip. Also works when daisy chaining a router into the switch to allocate ip addresses

My guess is that it could either be your router's firewall or possibly the switch.

Not sure if you are using a managed switch or not, but check to see if they are filtering packets. (Blocking connections)

Also have you tried sending a ping request to each of the machines to check there response times? On a decent lan of under 10-15 machines it should be around 0ms - 2ms with no packet loss. You can run this command by opening a cmd window and typing "ping <computername/ip>".

In addition to what you where all talking about before, what you are looking for is a DHCP/DNS server. Just so you know for your next lan event, you want to setup a windows server machine with the role DHCP and DNS installed. This will handle IP Allocation on your switch and provide you with advanced configuration options should you need it.  :)

Its only 6 people or so. I will check what you said but i thought a router would do the dns and ip stuff, thats why i connected it. Is it true that tge router will do it. I think the firewall is ok because i used that router before with a lan switch for lan party. Im not sure whats going on anymore xD

If everything network related look's ok, have you checked the machines them self. Same client versions and server is compatible etc..

If you can provide us with any kind of game server/game logs, it might provide us with the reason behind the random disconnects or connections refused. In addition if the game has a console, for example some games you can use the ` key to open a developer console. There might also be useful information contained within this console when you are trying to join a server.

I don't believe Minecraft has a visible console by default, you have to change an option to keep the launcher open when the game opens. Then navigate to the console tab.

Does the quake 3 console mention any errors regarding a connection when you try and join a lan server?
