Hey! My family just got a settlement for a car accident about a year ago, so it's time to upgrade my Dad's aging computer. Right now he has 4gb of RAM, a Core 2 Quad Q9650, and a 9600 GT.

He wants to play DayZ among other games, and he said "I want it to handle everything I throw at it at 1080p/60fps around ultra"

This is the build I've made so far and I'm pretty settled on it. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FpLCP6

But I'd also like to hear all of your opinions! I told him 550w would be more than enough, but he said he wanted the 750w just incase. He's never had a very good computer before. I initially suggested a 600w power supply, non-OC motherboard and CPU, and no aftermarket cooler because he said he didn't want to overclock. He said no just give me z97 :D maybe eventually he'll want to overclock if his CPU is no longer enough for future games. I chose the i5+980 over the i7+970 because the i7-4790k does not pose nearly any more performance over the 4690k in 9.5/10 games. Budget is $1200, I went a little over which is fine. $1300 max I'd say. RAM is nice because it's CL9 while still being 1.5v and above-average DDR3 speed

He was inspired to get the aftermarket cooler after seeing my FX-6300 OC temps with the 212 EVO

GPU either SLI 970s or 980ti because the 980 is a stupid buy even more now with the 980ti.

The 980 fits into this budget pretty well. I doubt my dad would want to mess with SLI at all and it also costs a bit more

I'd just get H1Z1 to be honest man!

I have both and regret buying DayZ

welp, this'll definitely be enough to ultra most stuff  :P

good build for what he intents to do with it! the possibility to overclock is always nice too, and the 980 will be enough for times to come!

tough is he going to put his old hard drives in here, or just the 850 evo SSD? because i think 120GB might be a little on the low side :P

-snip-

Even in ARMA 3 the 4690k doesn't perform any differently from the 4790k. Also my dad wouldn't want to turn of HT (Which is basically the only difference between the i5 and i7) every time he wants to play the game.

Oh I forgot to say, yes right now he has a 1tb WD black which will be fine. i think he also has a few other hard drives for database stuff

He's playing 1080p 60fps, I don't think either of those things would be worth it

WD Black

*vomits*

He'll probably put DayZ on the SSD anyways :D haha. Is the WD Black really slow? Or just an awful value

Is there a large difference between the two? He won't be watercooling or anything. We're just looking for a quiet mid-tower, I've used this case/CPU cooler in an x99 build and it was very quiet
