Computer Build

Go to solution Solved by Rampiks,

10 years is not gonna happen, i would sugest 4690k or 4790k paired with a z97 board

So I am looking at a possible pc build in a few months but I am unsure of what CPU I should get.

I was looking at the i7 5th gen but getting those means I need to get a 300-500$ motherboard and thats only worth it if you go ddr4.

However I hear that skylake will be better but that even better versions of it will be released 2016 but I don't want to wait til 2016.

For now I may not need to change my PSU and I don't need to change my HDD or my GPU just yet so all thats of a concern is the CPU Motherboard and then RAM.

I bet you will say something like why are you going for i7 and not i5 as the difference isn't that big?

My answer to this is that I want to get something that will last a very long time like 10 years plus or till it dies. On top of that I like doing emulators as stuff like my wii gets lost all the time and more things like the upcoming ps3 emulator which will require a striong CPU also alot of the upcoming badly optimized games.

So my question is what should I do. Get 5th gen? Wait for 6th gen? or go with 4th Gen since I heard bad things about 5th gen? Everything else falls into place with this question answered. (More or less)

well budget is like less then 2k for just these 3 things if I could do less then 1 that would be great and likely doable. Either way I got to save up for it. Location Canada. MB. As for use, GAMES, Emulators (BIG ones), as well as some programming as I need to keep my skills up to date.

Well as long as I can make the most out of it as I was able to use my dual core e5400 for the last 6 years so I don't see why a i7 wouldn't last that long if maintained well enough.

Consider the ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark 1 or Mark S. I have both motherboards and I really like them so far.

Thanks for the tip but I just looked at them and I don't see why I would want to spend 2 times the price of a http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132118for a motherboard that doesn't seem to do all that much more then this.
