I'm wondering what the difference is between CAS latency because I can get some CAS Latency 6 RAM for £80 and some CAS Latency 9 RAM for £40 I'm just wondering would it impact the performance majorly?

Technology is a curse... why? Because it's so addictive.

you found CAS 6 DDR3?????

between two identical sets of ram (identical other than latency) the lower latency ram will perform better.

the difference in latency will not be noticeable in a majority of tasks (i.e gaming, browsing, etc).

the difference will be noticeable in tasks such as Ramdisks,Video Editing,3D modeling/animation,as well as most other workstation grade tasks.

Yeah I found CAS Latency 6 DDR3 RAM I was pretty shocked I thought like 8 was the lowest. And I do allot of Video editing and 3D Modelling infact I did some today. It's what my profession is.

is it 1066 or 1333?

G.Skill apparently..

And 1066mhz

yeah, you could run basically any decent quality 1600mhz kit at CL7/CL6 @ 1066mhz.

In my personal opinion I think that a 1866 9-9-9-24 kit of ram would outperform a 1066 6-6-6-18 kit of ram.

I think that if you can buy/overclock a kit of 1600mhz ram to CL8 that would be worth it,but buying severely underclocked ram for lower latency seems counter intuitive.

higher frequency helps with video editing/3d modeling as well, and provided that the latency is CL9 I doubt it would impact it negatively.

I think the difference in performance doesn't scale as much, the same as with frequency.

you could buy 2800mhz CL12/CL14 ram,but that ram wouldn't perform much better in real life than a 1600/1866 CL9 kit.

or you could buy a 1066 CL6/CL7 kit,and it would probably even run worse for most applications due to the lower frequency.

I would say you're better off with balanced ram,1866 9-9-9-24 (full CL9,not something like 10-9-10-28).

I got it wrong it's 1600mhz sorry

That's the memory I'm happy with 8GB with better timings than 16gb

that's not full CL6 though lol,

full CL6 is 6-6-6-18.

this ram is 6-8-6-24.

though 1600mhz,with even near CL6 is impressive.

I would raise the latency to something like 7-8-7-20 and try to get 1866mhz,as the slightly lower latency won't help much.

It's really impressive with the 1600mhz! I'm just wondering if it'd help because I have the option of getting them through work which I would get them at a 50% off discount.

for £40 you should definitely get it,though for video editing/3d modeling go for a 16GB/32GB kit.

this is a 4x2GB so you'd have no room for expansion.

maybe something like this or this would be a better choice.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f312800cl7q16gbzm

7-8-8-24 for both of them

or maybe this 1866mhz 16GB kit,costs less but is CL9 (9-9-9-24).....which really won't have a huge impact.

I agree, much better performance, for the dollar.

Depending on what I can get through work I know I was able to get that one through work, but I'm building next month I've already ordered my 4770K and Motherboard.

It is price to performance but I need it to be fast enough and not crash.
