how can I tell the difference from a good graphics card to a bad one?

This is VERY hard to answer because what you think is good might be someone else's bad. Just depends what you're looking for and how much money you have. But there are some cards so stupid you shouldn't look at them like the R7-250 or HD 4000 which can only play a couple games in low settings.

24 fps for that "cinematic" feel


After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.

The amount of processing cores usually determines the GPUs from one another. 

 

Keep in mind that certain brands might be more or less optimized with certain games and cores your GPU has might not matter as much.

Just dont buy the very cheap ones! (270, 270X or 960) anything above these. :D

 

280 and 285 is a bit on the lowest side but never go below those 2!

Anything below 750ti is garbage.  Might as well stick with onboard gpu.

750ti for PC gaming noobs that have a store bought HP and just wants their feet wet with PC Gaming

960-970 mid range gamer who builds their own rig

980, Titan and above, deep pockets with no bottlenecks on their system.
