This last week I've decided to attempt to overclock my g1  970 but, been having many issues. I been reading and reading finding no answers. So my problem is even if I increase my core clock by 50 mhz, my card crashes randomly might be 5 minutes, 2 hours. I  even increased the power limit to max, increase the voltage and still have the issue. Only thing I could come up with is maybe my cx600 bottlenecking my oc? Any ideas or suggestions would be appericated.

PC Specs

i7 4790k stock

maximus vii hero

g1 970 (gigabyte)

cosair cx600

It shouldn't be a problem with your PSU it's more than adequate. Try increasing it by around 50-75MHz on the core and nothing more and do a 10-30 min stress test on the GPU to see if it can sustain it. What temps are you running at on the GPU.

Also check what ASIC score you have on your GPU in GPU-Z by right clicking the menu bar.

Get a new power supply with at least 650w.

Both the i7-4790k and GTX 970 consume very little power, on a system load you're looking at 300W perhaps. 650W is by far overkill.

Your PSU shouldn't be an issue, but you may have gotten a dud of an overclocker.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

I am also running 3 hdd and 2 ssd's not sure how much power they pull. Even just trying to post this, I exit heroes of the storm and then click a tab on firefox and my screens went blank for 2 seconds. It happens at odd times. Benchmarks usually run alright, but its not that stable in games, screen refreshes 1-2 times an hour. Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it.

By refresh as in it drop the overclock and reverts back to stock speeds?

Also it can be possible you got a card that will not overclock very much at all, which would be unfortunate.

I think I found the issue, there bad nvidia drivers or something. All the games I was having issues with were games I would have twitch on the second screen. I found if I enable hardware acceleration in firefox, seems like it fixes the problem. Been running at 80mhz without any issues now. Thanks guys!
