I ran Witcher 3 and was tweaking the settings and then went for a test run to see if the settings were fine. about 45 mins in on closing and opening the game my screen just went black in game and my monitor lost signal to my dvi. then when i checked my gtx 970 was off all of a sudden. So i booted up the computer and came back after 30 minutes and played witcher 3 again. Then after 30 minutes the same thing happened. Does anyone know why?

No the card is completely stock. Never changed any settings for the card.

Well, it looks like either you got a bad card, or you power supply isn't supplying enough power to it.  First try removing the card, and then put it back in again to make sure everything is seated correctly, also make sure that the power connectors are plugged all the way in until the latch clicks on both the gpu side of the connector and the power supply side of the connector (if it is a modular one).  Try increasing the power target and/or voltage of the card, or try reducing the core and/or memory frequencies and see if that stops your card from crashing.  If that fixes it then it is most definitely the card not being capable of running stable at the stock settings that were advertised.
