Talking politics is pointless, especially on the internet.

Therefore, I believe that gun laws should be restricted to Revolution era muskets.

Also, these threads have no place on a tech forum, it contributes to the hostile attitude that plagues places like OCN. If you need to talk politics with your fellow tech nerds, there should be a politics subforum in Off Topic. Just my opinion :)

Perhaps "pointless" wasn't the right word. What I'm trying to say is that we don't have much say in the political arena these days. We can argue about the way things should be all we want but at the end of the day, it's the people we elect who make the decisions. Whether or not we debate among ourselves, politicians will cast their votes based on the party lines that are already drawn.

I'm a huge supporter of free speech and the Constitution, but I feel that talking politics only makes the horrible partisanship (in the US) even worse. People today genuinely hate each others of opposing political parties (not everyone), why add fuel to the fire?

Ill be wearing my tinfoil hat over in the water cooling section.

I will always say that we should go back to cowboy days when every one and their kid literally had a gun. The problem now is that no one would know what to do with a gun if they had one, no one is taught the proper respect you should have for a gun or someone with one. It wouldn't be an overnight thing but in time it would just be a social norm.
I completely agree with Aphexx. Let me give a small anecdote.

I have chickens right? Just a few of them and they roam freely in the pen I made for them.

So not two weeks ago I went to them to deliver their food and get the eggs and I saw a very large bird of prey in the chicken pen. I ran to them only to see the bird fly away (easily 1.5 meters wing span), and one of my chickens being eaten (you could see its guts), though still not dead. So I beheaded it with an axe. I left the axe at the pen.

I immediately made a large net over the chicken pen as tight as possible so this would never happen again. I love my chickens you know?

Anyway, so I did that and I buried the chicken. I started googling the bird and it turned out it was a goshawk. An incredibly beautiful bird, semi endangered and all. Not that I gave a shit at that moment; if it came back and I caught it, it was going to be dead meat. Not even because I hate the beast, but I couldn't even sleep that night and it was during my finals so it didn't work out. Knowing that thing is still alive and out there wasn't working out for my peace of mind. I could understand why it was so close to my house (usually they don't do that) but it was winter and there was nothing to eat.

Some experiences from other people on the internet told me that it will keep coming back until all your birds are either dead or completely protected.

So the next day I went to my girlfriends school to pick her up. I went to see my chickens to see if they were alright, and they were. So I went to her school which took half an hour and guess what when I came back? It had slipped through a small hole in the net and it was feasting on another chicken, again half eaten but still alive.

Because of the nets it was very hard for him to fly away, it couldn't find the hole again. so I put on my gloves, grabbed my axe and ran after the thing, screaming and shouting it was going to be dead. What were my neighbors to think? Lol

So now the fun part starts: I ran in the pen closing the door behind me. It tried to fly out but it couldn't of course, but it was still very fast and flapping around made it very hard to hit.

I could've killed it where I stood. I had the weapon, there was the victim. Even if I had thrown the axe it could've been dead. But I couldn't do it.

It's like a ghost is holding your arm that's holding the axe. You just can't fucking do it.

So eventually it found its way out of there, probably with a heart attack as well because it was so frightened. I beheaded the second chicken, after which I made a impenetrable bunker for them out of nets and wire mesh. The bird never came back, probably because it was shocked so badly.

Thing I learned there, is that most people don't know how incredibly fucking hard it is to kill something with a conscious mind. It goes against everything that you have learned in your entire life. Killing the chickens wasn't hard, they were in very much pain and it was better that way, but I couldn't kill the bird that had attacked them.

It isn't as easy as pulling the trigger and leaving without having a bad conscience. You have to be Vaas to pull of that shit.

It isn't like videogames. AT ALL.

I see you have never been in a situation like me or Aphexx, Emkryan, and that's alright, I'm even happy that you haven't! But please believe us, it really is not easy to just pull a trigger at someone or something for that matter. Doing it with an axe is even harder because you need to put some muscle in it, while pulling a trigger is ''easy'', physically.

I totally understand you to every extent, I have never been put in a situation to take a life, but if it came to my safety or my family. I'm more than willing to pull the trigger on the person who truly threatens it. I'm not saying that I would enjoy it or not feel bad doing it, I might most likely, But it's a very "Heat-of-the-moment" thing, where you have to act on impulse. When seconds count, the cops arrive minutes later.

I understand, that would be a whole other matter. But I believe even then that it may be difficult, though your motivations will of course be stronger than they were in my case. There's still a difference between your chickens and your family :D

They can't control the crazies, if you take away every firearm.. Then they drive a car and run over a dozen people, or figure out how to make a bomb, or maybe even a household chemical poison (bleach + ammonia comes to mind). You can kill with a kitchen knife. My biggest issue with gun control is, its just another freedom taken away from you. The US bases everything on a knee jerk reaction, and politicians strike while emotions are high.

I started buying guns when I delivered pizza, I bought one, learned about them, and went to the range every other week until I was proficient. Who was going to protect me when I would be alone getting a beat down or worse for $50?

Well, a bomb is probably a better way of killing a crowd of people than a gun... and it is disturbing how easily you can get potassium nitrate and potassium chlorate in Canada.

it's a no brainer, the less guns in circulation the less chance they will be used in a crime .........however I doubt anything can be done now for countries like America it's all gone too far down the pan now and most gun owners in the USA are hell bent on retaining them and even radical reform and further incidents of mass loss of children's lives is unlikely to change their minds sadly.

I think the focus we all need to keep is not on Controling the sale and possession of guns, The Focus should be on who is buying these guns.

I personnally own 2 Glock 23's and a Camo Desert Eagle 50cal.

My motto is,,

The Guns are Blind.

The Bullets are Dumb.

People tell the guns ware to look.

People tell the Bullets what to do.

I like that quote.

I personally think you should have whatever you want but I guess I can live without full autos. lol My dad is a cop and he has pistols, shotguns, the big scary ak, and other rifles and I am pretty sure they have never shot anyone. I also have never had the urge to shoot anyone and that comes from someone that has played GTA or any violent games O.O I believe we as a society should be more aware of the mentally ill and making sure that our children cannot access these weapons on a whim.

In the end I am fine with maybe a more thorough check on you or whatever, but I just want to keep what I have, because I enjoy shooting paper and see how much better I can get at shooting paper. Also its fun shooting 100 rounds btw =P
