Modem randomly cuts off the internet?

So my modem turns off the internet, just without a clue. It looks like it resets or something. I was given my modem by my isp provider 6months ago. Checked the wires, checked everything and have no clue why it does that. Sometimes the wifi goes to limited on my laptop, sometimes just the internet cuts off. Any clue whats happening? Still waiting ages to get fiber...

Indeed I do, but he has a different modem, he has everything wired up really weardly and I really don't want to do anything to his setup. He's really bad with technology and if I do something to him he will start saying I broke something. I have encountered the same problem when I wanted to try some things with his computer that didn't work with mine on the hardware side.

Call your ISP, it should be under warranty for them to repair or replace it if it's only 6 months old

Hmm. It might be a thing to do. But I was thinking of updating the firmware because there is an update. It wouldnt void the warrany.

better to call them first - you can ask about the firmware update but they might prefer to do it themselves

That's a real shame does you laptop have ethernet? if it does plug it directly into your modem and see if it cuts off, hope i'm actually helping here

Thats usually a problem witht he connection (mine used to do it) the connection drops for a sec and means the modem needs to re-connect.. Either way you need to talk to your ISP as they supplied the router.

It does. And it doesn't disconnect with the ethernet connected, the only issue is if I'm using my laptop my brother a smartphone and my mother a tablet on the same wifi. Maybe it's overloaded with traffic and it resets.

If it's stable without other users it could be overheating or something.

My internet did this for a while (a few months) after my service provider sent a technision to fix the problem. He said that the Internet Node underground outside the house had dried up you so he replaced it and everything worked fine. ( was not happy how long the Service Provider took to sent a technision)
