There are some people, including myself who have had troubles getting the windows 10 reservation icon to show. There has been a recent Reddit post (link provided below) which provides a batch file that can help those with this issue.


Fix 2 worked for me, however it does not show the reserve upgrade button through the task bar. To fix this issue, after you have applied the fix, just go to the windows update and the reservation button should appear there.

Why exactly are people reserving? You can still get it for free until a year after launch, can't you?

 

Yes. The only thing the reserving does is that it downloads Windows 10 for you and then notifies you when it has done so, asking if you want to install it now or whatever.

Why exactly are people reserving? You can still get it for free until a year after launch, can't you?

I read somewhere that if you did not reserve, the direct download wouldn't be available until some time after the reserved release. Like a few weeks to months.

Though I've never heard of "windows update manager" You just mean "windows update" in System and  Security within the control panal?
