Hey all :D I've been planning and speccing a new rig that I intend to build over the summer, just wanted to see what people thought - any ideas people had :)

1. Budget & Location
I'm gonna be working over the summer, so the budget is fairly flexible but around £2000 including peripherals would be great :) I'm in the UK if you didn't guess by the £ :P

2. Aim
Mainly going to be a gaming rig, but since I need Video editing capabilities for my Uni course, I'll need the beef to handle Photoshop/After Effects/Vegas etc. It's going to be setup in my room on a desk, so nothing fancy in terms of rig setup - but I would like to use it for movies and popcorn every now and again :)

3. Monitors
I've been looking into 21:9 monitors and would love something like a 34" 21:9 but they can be on the pricey end, so any suggestions there would be appreciated. I hate Bezels so multi-monitor setup is unlikely, and since it's for gaming AND productivity, I'm looking for a decent GTG/BTB IPS if possible :)

4. Peripherals
I have a mouse/mech-keyboard already that I use with my laptop that are fine, but as above I'm looking to get a decent monitor - will also need a copy of Windows :)

5. Why are you upgrading?
Been chugging along with a Medion Akoya Laptop for a year and a bit now - it's not quite strong enough to play the games I want to play even on the lowest settings, so I'm looking to get a decent rig that'll last me a few years :)

I have a parts list that I've been working on - any suggestions are welcome :)

MSI Z97-GAMING 5 Socket 1150 ATX Motherboard Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU (Quad Core 4GHz, Socket H3 LGA-1150) WD 500GB Blue Desktop Drive - OEM Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive

Rosewill ATX 12V 750-Watt 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Power Supply Hive-750

NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case with Side Window and 4 Quiet Fans for PC - White/Black

2 X SLI

EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked with ACX 2.0 Cooling 4GB Graphics Card

If you end up doing lots of beefy video editing and storing lots of games, you might want a 1 TB hard drive. Otherwise, your build looks great!

LIBERATOR: Core i5 6400 @ 2.7GHz | GeForce GTX 670 2 GB | HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 @ 2133 MHz | 250 GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD
My new build; Liberator, Check it out

The more friendly we are, the more helpful we are!

MY OLD BUILD (AKA PREBUILT MONSTROSITY)
INSANITY: AMD Athlon II X2 @ 3.0 GHz | Geforce GT 720 2 GB | 4 GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz | 120 GB Silicon Power SSD | 500 GB Hitachi HDD

And a 5.25 DVD drive will be good for watching movies

The power supply is a little overkill, I calculated it here:http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine. You might want more around 600 watts.

Haha yeah - I have an external 1TB USB 3.0 for the Productivity stuff - the WB is pretty much just for games :) (Except BF4/LoL/Crysis/Payday2 which will go on the SSD I think). And I haven't decided on RAM yet - I'll probably just end up getting 8GB of G.Skillz RipJawzX. If I need a bit more heft for AE I'll just get another 8GB down the line :3

Also if anyone has any advice (rather than the opinion I see pretty much everywhere else xD) on 2 GTX 970s vs 1 GTX 980Ti, that would be much appreciated. At the moment the only major benefit of the 980Ti is I can get another and put it in SLI for upgrading in the future, which gets me far more power than adding a 3rd/4th 970...

Some good data at http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review/. Scroll down a bit to see comparisons with SLI/CF configs.
