Help :) SSD for laptop?

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Samsung 840 is a good SSD. Also, Intel SSDs are a good option.

Hey guys, I just joined this forum today :) I own a Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 laptop. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade my current HDD to an SSD? I don't know the types or anything, I asked a friend and all he said was "only buy corsair, Samsung and Sandisk SSD's", I have a budget of around 200 dollars max.

A good place to start for this type of question is this: What do you do? Size will depend on your workload

I Basically play games and browse, and I transfer stuff on a daily basis, from and to external hard drives. I do not need more than 128Gb's

If you plan to install larger games in the future, don't plan to use an SSD for storage. If you keep your games in an EXHHD then go for a Samsung 840 or an Hyper X. Those two are extremely good drives

Pretty much any SSD is compatible with any laptop, as long it uses SATA and as long as the drive is physically thin enough.

Main question is, are they compatible with my laptop?

All laptops work with 2.5" Drives. SSDs are all that same size, so yes. You will see a MAJOR difference in preformance and reliability.

Yes but i heard there's like something to do with cables in the laptop? something that has to do with SATA2 or SATA3, do i need to purchase anything or upgrade anything that isn't included with the SSD?
