Help Choosing a FreeNas CPU

Go to solution Solved by Jarsky,

The Pentium G3250 is the cheapest CPU you can buy for that board. Any modern CPU is fine for running FreeNAS.

Maybe compare the price of that locally to a second hand Socket 1155 off eBay or a local trade site for second hand parts. you'll probably get a much better deal buying the CPU second hand.

Hi all, long time no see.

So I'm building a FreeNas out of an existing computer which I put a new wd red drive into. It has 8 gb of ram, and currently has an i7 3770, which I will be taking out of the nas for my new desktop build for later. What I need is a replacement z77 cpu for the 3770. It needs to be able to handle system backups and redundancy in the server. I'd prefer to spend as little as possible.

Thanks

Klark

Good point. I'll see if I can pick up something on craigslist or ebay. Thanks
