Hello everyone, I've become a fan of the videos and am here to ask some general build questions as on the videos these forums are advertised. I'm a composer, I'm currently using a dell xps 8300 I purchased 5 years ago with an Intel i7 2600, 16 gigs of ram (it came with 8, I upgraded) and use an external audio interface (a Roland quadcapture)for my audio production software, Sonar x2 and the full east west quantum leap symphony orchestra sample library. It works okay, but I'd like to see if I can't eliminate some work issues like slowdowns, dropouts and, general lag from time to time. I also can't seem to load the samples (thankfully, the midi instruments are extensive). I was wondering, should I head over to pcpartpicker and start a build that I would put together from scratch, what would be a strong upgrade cpu to start with? I've done some homework and found that Sonar x2 benefits from multiple cores, but am unclear on whether or not hyper threading would really make a difference. Obviously, considering the 800 dollar price difference between the latest i7 octocore processor and an amd fx chip this is something I could use a little guidance with. Thank you.

the i7 2600 is not slow which is odd, if youre from america they currently have the i7 5820k for sale at an absolute bargain at micro centre, you will have to spend a little more on ddr4 ram and a motherboard but at the price the cpu is atm its worth it.

the be quiet! Dark rock pro 3 has a ram clearance of 44mm and the ripjaw is 40mm high, so you should be ok.
