Hi!

My computer is soon turning 5 years old.

I'm running an i7 870 @ 4 GHz (liquid cooled), with a slightly overclocked gtx 660 (2GB).

I have a 700w power supply, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have a 128gb HyperX SSD, which boots really slowly due to my BIOS load time being ~25 seconds (annoys me).

I'm mainly playing CS:GO in a league and Dota2 for fun. Both of these games are EXTREMELY CPU dependent, and the GPU hardly matters.

At the moment I'm getting ~250fps in GO and ~130fps in Dota.

I will be playing Assassin's Creed Rogue and Unity in the summer.

I might pick up a few other games as well if I have the time for it.

So to the point:

I'm thinking about upgrading my motherboard and CPU.

I'm thinking about the 4690k for around 250€ in my country, and an MSI Z97 PC Mate motherboard for around 100€.

So, to my questions: is the 350€ upgrade worth it?

Should I wait for the new Skylake architecture to be released instead?

My CPU is my bottleneck in Dota 2, will the GPU or the CPU be the bottleneck in other games?

I know that this question is dependent on wallet size, etc, but I really just want your honest opinion. Money isn't that big of a matter :)

Ummm I don't think 250fps is a bottleneck.....

Is it worth it? Yes. If you buy the new CPU and mobo, you'll be good for atleast another 4 years just like your i7 870.

Should you wait for the new Intel architecture? That is upto you. It will definitely be more expensive. However, since you're mostly playing Dota 2 and CS: GO, then there really won't be much an improvement. It's not like you're being bottlenecked just like deVIZtation mentioned.

For any other game like Assassin's Creed and such, your GPU will be the main component, so keep that in mind. Upgrading your GPU might be something you'll want to consider if you really want to play games with more intensive graphics.
