Hello to all!

I am new to the forums, and I hope I am not writing in a wrong section.

So, my cousin wants to upgrade his PC for newer titles, and I have spent hours and days thinking what are the best parts for price (AMD or Intel, what MB etc.) and I really need some suggestions from all You Wonderful People!  :)

His build is the following:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5 Ghz

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti

RAM: 4 GB 400 Mhz

MB: Gigabyte EP43-UD3L

PS: I don't really know, but an upgrade will be needed for it...

So what I have stumbled upon were the Intel Core i3 Series (4160 mostly). The build is mostly meant for gaming (and a bit of video editing, maybe 3D, but mostly gaming). With his current build, I'm sure the GPU is bottlenecked by the CPU. Especially Battlefield 4 seemed to struggle with stuttering and lag a lot more than Battlefield 3, and also some other games. I was wondering if You could give me tips and the cheapest hardware for the money, around $250 max. What is the best Motherboard and Power Supply for the price, so that most of the budget is left for the CPU (and RAM, if that's what also causing lag, I need an opinion on that aswell  :) ).

Thank You So Much in Advance! Any help is highly appreciated!

Goodbye to All and Have a Nice Day/Night!  :D

The best would be to get a new motherboard+CPU and PSU. That gpu is still decent.

a i3 would suit him good since he does editing. Id recommend the H97 chipset for upgradability.

It will be hard to get it under $250. Personally, I would save a bit more and get an i5.

Thank You so Much! I like the parts You chose, maybe we'll go with these! :) Will the i3 bottleneck the 560 Ti in games?

Not at all. You could probably go up to a 980, maybe even a 980Ti without seeing bottlenecks.

Here is what id recommend:

CPU: Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($108.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($71.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Team Elite Plus 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($43.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply  ($34.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $259.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

And later he should upgrade to this CPU: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31226v3

And after that he should upgrade to a R9 280x(Not a 960, He probably needs Vram for the editing) or a GTX 970, I would not recommend a R9 290/x on a 500watts PSU.

First of all, Thank You so Much for the Recommendations! I've checked the parts, and it seems that Motherboard is not available in our country. Would You recommend any other, maybe a Gigabyte equivalent? Thank You in Advance again!

I would recommend the cheapest motherboard you can get that as the H97 chipset and is from Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, Asrock or Asus.

And Crossfire and/or SLI capability would not be a minus.

Alright, but if I went for something cheaper and different from H97, what would you recommend?
