My sister's PC has had a problem for about a week where whenever she plays something out of her headphones there is a distinct scraping grinding noise from her ATH-M50s. She uses an M Audio FastTrack interface on an Alienware X51 with a GTX 660 and Ivy Bridge 3770. She's already tried updating the drivers, and reinstalling them.

Could the sound be coming from inside the computer, and travelling up the headphone wires?

Plug the interface into another computer to troubleshoot. If the sound persists, the computer is not the problem; if it doesn't, it is. Also try different headphones for the same purpose.

  • 2 weeks later...

Different headphones have been tried, as well as use on a another computer. A different USB port has also been tried.
