can you please advice me

Here is my current setup

CPU: i5 2500k OC 4.5Ghz (custom liquid cooled)

MB: Asus P8-Z68-v pro

Mem: G.Skill sniper 16GB

GPU: Geforce GTX 580 (custom liquid cooled)

Display: HP w2408h 1080p 60-75Hz

PSU: Thermaltake tough power 1000w (very old stuff :P )

Disk: 256GB SSD sata3+ 1TB 7200rpm

I would like to play games at 1440p (want to get a 120hz or 144hz monitor) at highest possible settings for most of the games, I also use my computer to build linux vm's and practice/play with my job related stuff like openstack, docker some application server installs etc.

my budget for the upgrade is around $3000-3500 .. so I would like to get a enthusiast-performance kinda setup

Here are my question(s):

1. what graphic card(s) should I get ? I was planning to get 980 Ti's in SLI .. what do you guys recommend ? will these bottleneck my CPU

2. which display is good at 1440p at 120hz-144hz with gsync ?

3. should I upgrade to Haswell-e/X99  or IvyBridge-e/Z97? if yes which processor/MB/GPU ?

4. should I upgrade my PSU (it is working just fine)  ?

please advice guys, thanks in advance

1. go for a single one, then SLI if you feel you need it in the future

2. Personally, i like ACER, but thats just my preference

3. I would say go for LGA 1150, as its about to get a whole new line of CPUs, and DDR4 and X99 MoBos are a lot of $$$$

4. Profit

that PSU is fine

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Forgot to mention, the CURRENT LGA 1150 CPUs I recommend are the 2 Devil's Canyon unlocked CPUs, the I7 4790k and the I5 4690k, but Broadwell is just around the corner.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FctYYJso something like this? Hmm I added a another 8gb Stick just because why not? Could probably make it an extra 16 if you want and eather 1600 or 1866mhz whatever speed yours is at. Added a 500gb SSD for games your play the most on steam like gra v far cry 4 ect ect... A new mobo, supports 4-way SLI. Why not? Plus... I picked the superclocked blow cards because they'll be in SLI so less heat for your PC. :)

Thank you all for the advice, I heard that LGA 1150/Z97 is pretty much a dead socket and is not going to receive any new CPU's

and the new Broadwell line up is going to be on a new socket LGA 1151 ? I don't know how true the news is. If I upgrade to a new CPU/MB I want it to be a future proof (I feel like a idiot saying those words already ;) )..
