So basically my current set up is 1 SSD (120GB) and 2 Hard drives, one is 1TB and one is 350GB, the SSD has windows 7 on it, when I first installed windows I made sure that no other drives where connected to the motherboard, I read somewhere that if you don't the drives will be somewhat associated with the SSD and if I take one out it can mess up my OS. So I want to know when windows 10 comes around and I decide to upgrade, will I be able to simply unplug my 2 HDDS and just wipe the SSD and install windows on it and  then plug my HDDs back in and they will work? The issue is I have on my 1TB hdd 90% of my programs installed on it, and then my 350gb HDD only has some random files on it that are not important.

Another thing I should mention is that I have moved my Temp Folder over to my 1TB HDD and I have also moved all of my Documents, downloads etc over to it.

I included an image to try to explain what I have going on right now.

Thanks!

Just to clarify I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.. I don't think my system specs need to be posted for this issue.

I know I can do that its just will all my programs on my Hard drive still work properly and run?

Yeah probably, the devs. at Microsoft are pretty good with stuff like that. The upgrade should be pretty smooth.

Quote my post if you need me to respond.

I have the same problem as you, I had all my files on a different hard drive and was wanting to change OS's options:

1- You could just click the 'Upgrade Windows' option when setting up Windows 10 and you should keep all your files and just change OS's.

2- Or you can click the 'Custom' option and click your drive that has your Windows 7 on it and click 'Format' (make sure it ONLY has your OS because it will wipe everything else) and once it formats, double check to see if the SSD you want to install Windows 10 on is selected and click 'Next' and the install process should begin :)

I did the second option I suggested and it worked smoothly, I have never tried the 'Upgrade' process but I assume that way would be more efficent/fast than the second option.

I have no idea what I'm doing

Alright thanks for the info! So if I do the second option all my programs on my J drive should work fine even though I have changed my OS?

Yes sir, you will most likely have to uninstall your drivers for your hardware and reinstall the Windows 8 versions but it may not matter since you're staying with 64 bit. I would still do a reinstall just to be safe :)

Nope. The system will have a new registry, and any program that stores settings there will not work. Steam is portable though, so you don't have to worry about that

I thought this may be the case, well at least I can move my SteamApps folder onto my M drive and save the time to reinstall all my games! same goes with origin I guess.

I don't know about Origin, I wouldn't count on it.
