AlexFWD on RFD said, "I bought this router at TheSource when it was 49.99$ last month and returned it a few weeks later. The range was not very good. I have a 1600 sq ft house and the router is in the basement - wouldnt get the 5 gig freq. to reach the upper floors and the 2.4 gig was fading in and out."

konfusion666 on RFD said, "My impressions of this router: Bought one for my mom to replace her aging DIR-655.

On the 2.4GHz band, the signal is stronger than the DIR-655. Gets 4 bars (max) throughout her condo, whereas the 655 would reduce by 1 bar in the bedrooms and then drop out after a while. This router doesn't appear to drop out in the bedrooms.

On the 5.0GHz band, I only have 1 test device: My Nexus 4 (which is wireless-N 5GHz, not wireless-AC!). And it only seems to want to connect to the router when it's in the same room. Go into a bedroom and it loses connection entirely! If I setup the Nexus 4 to use the 2.4GHz SSID instead, it's fine in the bedroom. Puzzling.

So my conclusion after 1 evening of use is that it's fine on 2.4GHz but not so much on 5.0GHz, but I wasn't able to test the 5GHz band properly (with a wireless-AC device, I'm thinking...)"

I looked for things on range on store sites and on Dell's site and got nothing from those.  You might want to call or email Dell tech as they definitely should be able to help you get exact information.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I'd suspect that nobody will give you an official range as it's influenced by so many things. What's the temperature, and humidity. What obstruction are between the receiver, and the source. And exactly what the receiver is. I will say I trust D-link to produce a trusted product about as far as I can kick their production headquarters. If you can get an official range listed it will probably be under ideal conditions.

The reason I ask is because I live in a 2-story townhouse setting. and most 2.4ghz activity is downstairs. While the 5ghz activity is even on both up and downstairs for video and game streaming. Can you give some kind of idea based off of that?

The only product sheet I can find with a range listed for that smart antena is

ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DI-634M/Datasheet/DI-634M_datasheet_01a.pdf

It's for a dual antenna solutions and it quotes 100m indoors. I don't trust that, as even good solutions won't reach those ranges outside of an enterprise situation. I'm sorry, but the only advice I can give you is to buy the best you can afford, and hope for the best.
