I have a disk for windows 8 (normal version), and my friend has a key for windows 8.1 pro. Can he use my cd with his key, and get a normal install?

Can you insert a windows 8 cd in the cd reader, and use a windows 8.1 pro code when youre asked to enter the code?

Is it a monkey? Is it an ape? I don't care, I LOVE'EM!

I would just use a USB flash drive and download the Windows 8.1 Pro iso instead.

If you need help doing this then feel free to PM me.

Thing is, i just entered the code and it says "Cannot confirm product key. Check insertion media" (<- rough translation from swedish)

Ok unlike what people say above, Normal and Pro keys differ. They are not the same so you wont be able to use it. You also cant use a Windows 8.1 key during a Windows 8 install. I dont know why Microsoft thought this would be a good idea.

So if you are trying to use a non-pro key with a pro install then your stuck and there is nothing that can be done about that :(

Then it's best to get a Windows 8.1 Pro ISO and just burn it to a DVD.
