Audio not working (Win 8.1)

Go to solution Solved by blueballs,

you can try this:

Hi, I'm fairly new to this forum, so excuse me if I do this wrong. So, I recently completed a build, which caused my laptop to become somewhat obsolete. Because of this, I switched over my main headset to my new build and tried to plug in an old set of earpods to the laptop. The earpods did not work even though they have before on the same computer in the same operating system, and on other devices running Windows 8.1. Also, when I take them out, the audio from the laptop's speakers still does not work, even though it did before. No other earpods will work, and I have not tried using the headset. Furthermore, it says that (regardless of whether it is so) there are headphones plugged in, and it shows volume that corresponds to whatever audio I am trying to play. Please help.

Also, as an added bonus, I'm having a similar problem on my desktop. The headset I am using works fine for audio, but the built in microphone will not. They are Turtle Beach Earforce X12. They worked on my laptop, and, strangely, the microphone's pink cable did not need to be plugged in, only the green headphone cable. Now, on my new desktop build, I can plug in the pink cable. Strangely enough, the mic does not work, regardless of whether the pink cable is in or out.

Thanks for your assistance, I will be looking forward to trying out your solutions.
