Ok, so I bought an artifacting Radeon 6790 for $15. I reflowed it and it seems to work fine. Apart from the temperature. It's as if the heatsink isn't touching the die.. It idles ~50-60c at it's lowest speed. Under furmark it hits 105c in less than 10 seconds and throttles. The bearing on one of the fans is on it's way out too which is annoying because every time it upclocks such as when I open Chrome it spins up..

I've already taken it apart and repasted. Looked like it was making perfect contact.

I cleaned everything and used screws that aren't limited in how far they go in and yet the heatpipes are barely above room temperature. GAH.

I can really only make assumptions without seeing it, but I'm guessing that it was broken beyond repair before you bought it.

^ this.

your extremely high temps are probably the reason it started artifacting in the first place, In my experience if on ebay anything is "AS-IS" or artifacting or won't boot to bios =beyond fixable.

It was artifacting. I fixed that. Runs fine under load, apart from the heating up. The heatsink is one of those that have the flattened heatpipes directly on top of the die and it looks a tiny bit curved to me..
