The 5820k pack the bigger punch but it extra power doesn't show in game that much really since most game only use up to 4 core. I would go with the 4790k since with the 5820k you need an x99 board + ddr4 ram which can be quite expensive.

Mainboard:ROG-STRIX-B360-G-GAMING/Cpu:I5 8400 /Gpu: Galax RTX 2070 /Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4/ Storage:1TB HDD 2 Corsair SSD PSU : Corsair 550W/Cooling: Silverstone Air Cooler/ / Case : Corsair/Keyboard:Razer Chroma TKL/Mouse:Mionix Castor+Steelseries Qck Mass/Headphone:V Moda M100

Quote me if you when me to reply to something.

I would recommend the 4790K for gaming and rendering.

However, if you're gonna do some heavy rendering / other work, I'd go with the 5820K as it's motherboard also supports DDR4 ram.

4790K, but if you want a little bit of "Future proof", go with an X99 platform.

I would suggest that you wait for Skylake if you can and then decide what you want.

Might as well go 5820k if you have already spent the money on a Titan X. If price doesn't matter the 5960x is the best gaming CPU out there though thanks to its 20 MB cache and 8 cores, but it's almost 3x as expensive for a pretty small performance gain over the 5820k.

Currently, a 4 core CPU is all you need for gaming. Currently, most games don't even fully exploit the cores in a 4790k.

By the end of the year though, currently may very well be the past. One of the things that may change the current dynamic is that Dx12 is suppose to use more than the single core it uses now. Some of the games in development now are being written to use Dx12, and a few of them will probably be released by the end of the year. So while you might not gain any real benefit from a 5820k today, chances are excellent that you will in a handful of months.

The 4790k will be relevent and considered a top gaming CPU until it can no longer keep up with the games being put out. When it comes to gaming CPU usage is not the big thing to worry about. As you already have a titan x graphic quality should be superb. For the games that do utilize the CPU it comes down to do you want to spend extra money on a X99, ddr4, and the extreme CPU. Future proofing is not a thing. You can wait forever for the next big product release to come but PC's are ever changing. Buy what you need to game on now.

Is this a braND new build or am upgrade?
