Cryorig is a new brand, but they have good coolers. This will peform en par with a 212e, plus it looks better

Replace with 212 EVO, get a cheaper case (Corsair 200r or similar), get a cheaper Gigabyte Mobo that has a decent BIOS (MSI can suck it) and throw in a 256 GB 850 EVO

SSD SSD SSD. Dont skimp out on the important bits , even while trying to fish for more FPSs.

How long is upgrade cycle?
Going for OC cpus now isnt really a good time anymore, i mean yeah looks and feels cool but if your just gaming n editing go for an i7-4790 with stock cooler, its almost the same price as 4690k with cooler.

In the end we need to know what type of an "Upgrade" does he want. Performance or looks?

Drastically? on most games you wont even see much of an fps bump. Im running one as well and have tried alot of testing on it. Its fun and all but im very sure an i7 4790 would have been a smarter purchase :)

plus with a hyper 212, that thing isnt enough to OC hard. So he wont be able to enjoy unlocked goodness entirely as well.

the 4690k is a good chip. but seeing that the prices for the i7 has come down reasonably, it might be a better choice even if your getting 2-3fps less.

reasonable vs fun :) just my input as a 4690k user who has been abusing hes sillicon *not that silicon* hard..

In playing PlanetSide 2, from stock clock on that CPU to 4.5 GHz, my FPS went from 40 to 55 (average, in heavy fight)

Well that game mainly runs on just 2 core with core 3 for some other stuff, not sure. For these types of heavy muultiplayer not so optimised games 4 core OC hands down.

It doesnt, fps aint everything if your pc chugs along. Theres more to enjoying a pc than just fps :) . I edited my sentance, probably my english was crap and you missunderstood me. Sorry bout that.

Yeah sure.

Look at that minesweeper opened in 0.1 secs!

Honestly I don't like SSDs that much, I have one myself and I prefer the reliability and longetivity of good HDDs more than a fast and limited SSD.

An HDD can live years while an SSD has limited Read/Write times.

actually its the other way around. HDDs have a spinning disk and that disk can only spin so much. ssds last WAY longer. some can last like 100 years because theres no moving parts to fail.

You must have had some bad experiances with SSDs sir :) Thankfully all the SSDs that i own are working well so far. So has the HDDs, other than few old 2.5" ones.

I havent installed minesweeper to try it out. But loading MMORPGs, and big games are just so snappy. Naturally i still use HDD for large storage and archiving.

To each thier own i guess. Just IMHO.
