I've recently decided to build a PC and was wondering, firstly, what fps and settings I can expect in the newer games at 1080p I will get and secondly, if anyone has any improvements at a similar price?

CPU- AMD FX-6300

CPU Cooler- Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo 43.1

Motherboard- M5A78L-M Micro ATX AM3+

RAM- Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2x4GB) 2400 memory

Video Card- XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Black Edition

PSU- EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Get an amd 8350 if your wanting amd, but otherwise I'd go for an i5. I had an fx 6300 and it was kinda slow in more modern games, unlike this i7

Are you overclocking?  If you aren't, I would pick up a budget xeon.  If you are, pick up a core i5.

I was thinking about getting the 8350, but where I live, the UK, the i5 would cost quite a bit more for a K model, which I believe I would need if I ever wanted to overclock?

If you want an XFX card, I would pay the extra 10 or 20 USD to go up to the R9 290.  Then, you get an extra GB of GDDR5, more stream processors, and a (slightly) better memory bus

I live in the UK which I probably should have stated although is the difference when jumping up to R9 290 going to be substantial in gaming as I would be willing to do that if it's worth the extra money.

I would probably want to overclock in the future so an i5 would be ideal but the pricing may be an issue right now, although if an i5 is a huge improvement I'd probably be willing to wait till I have the money saved up to get the i5.

Two other things: you seem to be overkilling the ram (but nice find, that's some good RAM).  Also, I think you will only need a 500 watt psu (I know EVGA makes versions of that current PSU in 550 Watt).

The only reason the ram is pretty good, is because it's a pretty great deal (around 5% cheaper than the cheapest 1600 memory). Thank you for the recommendation on the PSU though, I was pretty unsure of how much power I would need so I thought if I go a bit higher I'd be safe, but anywhere I can save money without losing performance is very helpful.

It depends on your resolution of gaming.  If you are at 1080p right now, then the R9 285 will be just fine.  But, if you want to upgrade to a higher resolution later, the R9 290 will definitely be worth the marginal price increase.

Over the FX 6300, the i5 is a HUGE jump up.  If you want to OC, I HIGHLY recommend saving your pennies.

I will probably be at 1080p for a while so I guess I could just upgrade when I need to in the future. I think I will wait for an i5 though.
