Hey everyone,

I just signed up here but have occasionally browsed the site various times.

My current PC is a i5 4670 (non K)

16 GB ddr3 corsair vengence 1866

asrock z87 extreme4

samsung ssd

500gb HDx2 in raid 1

750ti

S650M power supply

thermaltake frio OCK cpu cooler.

I have always regretted getting the i5 and have always wanted to upgrade it. I am attempting to go about this upgrade in a way that will future proof me with anything I decide I may want to do. I rationalize this by determining that the need to "upgrade" in the future ends up costing more money than just getting better stuff right now.

What I want.

X99 board, Asrock extreme4

5820K

32GB ddr4 g skill value ram 2400

Noctua nh d15

All going in a Cooler master n600 case

All else will stay the same. I am powering 3 new HP 24" workstation monitors.

Primary use for PC is working with Trading software. I have every screen filled with many charts, I also will be running Visual studio and excel programs in the background within the near future for some level of automation. Additionally, I open and close windows in chrome continuously throughout the day. I will play games on the PC occasionally, I don't want to put money into graphics cards now because I use my Xbox one for what I want now, so if I decide to switch over to full PC gaming, I'll sell xbox and get graphics cards!

In short, I want to upgrade my PC to ensure that I have a competitive system for many years to come with no need to upgrade further. Also, having a bad ass PC obviously just makes you feel good, LOL.

Would appreciate some input.

Nope, it's the other way around.

I don't see how that could be possible.

Decide to me "cheap" now, but lower or mid range stuff, in a year or two, the norm is that much higher this where you were. Now you get rid of your stuff and buy stuff that is normal again. Etc etc. Or, you finally give in and just get the stuff you should have gotten first time around, thus, instead of your ideal build costing X, it costs X + first build cost minus small resale.

Don't get the i7 5930k, the 5820k is exactly the same proccessor at a slightly lower speed yet much  cheaper.

Was going to do this, but if I change over to PC gaming or using 16x PCI cards, I liked being able to use a 16x graphics card plus another 16x thing, along with an additional 8x. Also I read that the 5820k performs lower than the 5930

Tech tends to get better and cheaper with time and not the other way around. Higher end parts come with a premium. Just look at older parts and their pricing during release.

See but there are factors your not considering.  Higher price doesn't always equal better.

For example:

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/intel-cpu-bx80648i75820k%2Cintel-cpu-bx80648i75930k/

The i7-5930k vs the i7-5820k, sure the 5930k is 200MHz faster, but it's just higher binned, overclock the 5820k to 3.5 and you have the same chip for $190 less.  The 5930k isn't going to 100% overclock higher than the 5820, so you are better off saving the money on this comparison.

Now if your looking at going from an i7-5820k to a i7-5930k that is just dumb, and a waste of money.

If you would like to post a budget your trying to stick to I could select the components I think would be the best future defensive given the current parts available.

As it sits (assuming your buying in the US) your parts list is already at $1200+

CPU: Intel Core i7-5930K 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($499.99 @ Micro Center)
CPU Cooler: Swiftech H220-X 55.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($195.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock X99 Extreme4 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard  ($192.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $1208.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I'm sure you've looked at the pricing already.

Thanks for your input.

I have changed some parts!

5820K + Asrock extreme4 from microcenter for roughly 450-470 out the door.

Gskill value series, 32gb 2400mhz

Noctua nh dh15

This saved me a good amount of money already, what is your opinion?

I am using PC part picker but not sure how to post like you did above. Also, how do you choose the microcenter price to show opposed to the second best online price?

Nevermind just figured out the price thing. So it will be $868 with tax/shipping (I also have 4 cougar turbine fans for $29).
