Greetings everyone.

I've been looking for a laptop for quite a while now and since I saw linus review on the msi gs70 with the gtx970m, I fell in love with it due to it's fantastic performance and gorgeous looks! :D BUT, I'm terribly afraid I'll be spending a huge amount of money on something that won't be comfortable to use on a daily basis and with all day usage due to it's poor battery life and huge temps on the chassis. I don't really want to need to by a laptop cooler right after I buy my new laptop..

Anyway, just wanted to hear some opinions about it, not only this laptop in particular but in general, I'm not a heavy gamer, I'm a bit more of a casual but I do like to play recent titles (I recently bought gta V) every once in a while. I also want it to be a good replacement for a desktop (I currently have a crappy desktop), I want to be able to connect at least one more monitor on my desk at home (as I have 2 beautiful looking MX238H's from asus that I intended to keep).

My main things to expect from my new laptop is to have at least around 3/3.5 hours battery life doing normal stuff like browsing or using Office, being lightweight (as it can be) because I carry it around every single day, is good looking (not my main concern but always nice), not too 'fat' and thick (like the asus rog nonsense, that's no good for a college student like me), is around 15' and 17', and finally don't heat up too much, many times during class I put it down on my lap so that I can write..

I know that this is too much to expect from a laptop right now but still, I want to know what's out there that I don't know of.. And anything will be an upgrade from my compaq heater potato......

Also I live in Europe though the keyboard layout would be something that I'd go over with if everything else was what I pretended it to be :)

Thanks in advance!

Budget? Clevo P650SE is nice, or P670SE if you want a 17" one. GTX 970M with 2 dedicated fans for cooling, 2 M.2 SSD slots, 2 SATA slots, max of 32GB of RAM.

Hi. See that top chunk? You're asking for a low-power, thin, non-gaming-focused, midrange laptop.

See that bottom chunk? You're asking for a thick, well-cooled (ESPECIALLY on the CPU with GTA V), good gaming laptop.

Pick one. You're never in your life going to marry the two together. The P670Sx or P650Sx comes a little close, but Clevo unfortunately put the two fans on the GPU where it didn't need two fans and then put one fan on the CPU where it needed two fans. Blast Furnace chips Haswell chips are very hot, and GTA V is quite literally going to pull out a dildo for your CPU unless you force an extremely heavy CPU bottleneck on it.

Also, power = less battery life. Battery life = less power. The two don't go together.

If you find the bottom is more important (though I doubt it since you called the ROG "nonsense" in terms of its bulk) then the P770ZM or P750ZM is your best bet.

If you find the top is more important, then a P670Sx or P650Sx is your choice. The x is a variable for what GPU it uses, with A = 965M, E = 970M and G = 980M, since the GPUs are soldered to the board. Depends on what you want to spend.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Thanks for both the replies :)

I looked at those, problem that I found about clevo is that I simply did not know anything about them before I started looking for a new laptop..

You are right and I thought about that aswell, what I idealize is a dream laptop that simply does not exist.. I'm taking the battery life path of things, as a college student I don't find much time to play anyway and I'll keep my desktop for light casual gaming whenever I want. I was just hoping there would be something out there that I did not know of that would surprise me with it's battery life while being a gaming laptop but you're right.. Plus, Every week I do 2 times 3 hour train journeys from home and back, so it would be crucial for me to be able to work during that time.. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll continue my quest for a new laptop but now with a different path :P
