what are you current system specs?\

what types of games do you enjoy playing/plan to be playing once you upgrade to a new GPU?

what is your overall budget or the max youre willing to spend?

also, follow your topics so you can see when someone replies :)

IMO, a 4GB 960 is not worth it, for most things that the 960 is going to comfortably handle, 2GB will be all you need

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

Man i remember the days when they said 3GB was good enough for 1440P or 1080P multi monitor and that 2GB would do you fine for 1080P and 1GB could even do 1080P.

4GB 960 however?. Well i'd say it wouldn't be a bad idea? i saw a guy testing out a 4GB GTX 960 in GTA V and it was using about 3.4GB of Vram at maximum settings, also add on stuff like a modded skyrim and other games that might be a bit thirsty on that vram :), plus games seem to be getting a bit more hungry for vram nowadays, like as said at the top of my post :"D.

I dont know how prices are at the moment for 960's but i remember finding a 4GB 960 for about 25-40$ more than a normal 960, and maybe for some people that wouldn't be worth it? (specially those on a budget), for me personally i'd be happy to pay the extra but that's just me.

also apart from the 960 i might chuck in the R9 280/280X.

says the person with the 6GB 7970 :u

oh, that was fast :P

motherboard: MSI B75MA-P45

GPU: ZOTAC gtx 650 1gig

RAM : kingston valueR 1333mhz 8gb

CPU: Core i5 3450

storage: corsair ssd series 3 120gb and seagate barracude 1tb

and a seven year old powersupply that noisy as hell :P

hmm.. i played alot of different kinds of games.. played GTA 5 on console so ill probably play that some on pc. thats why i was thinking about a 4gig gpu. main reason im upgrading is so i can play games that is a little more heavy on hardware.

and budget is a little bit tricky since i live in Norway and shipping isnt really a option. but my budget is like 1300usd

Your CPU, GPU, and RAM are fine. Hell, they're better than fine. They're great for a gaming machine. You'd be nuts to upgrade from an i5-3450 to an i5-4460. The difference in Passmark between those two chips is a lousy 3.5%.

Forget buying a new board and RAM. RAM speed doesn't affect gaming at all right now. Take that money you saved on the board, CPU, and RAM, buy a GTX 970, hell even maybe a 980, and a better SSD. Kingston V300's are crap, they changed the components to much lower performing ones after everyone tested and benchmarked them. They're garbage. Crucial MX100's are way better, as are Samsung 840 or 850 EVOs. And get a 7200RPM hard drive instead of a WD Green. You'll have a way better gaming system that costs a lot less this way, I mean your i5-3450 is still a monster gaming CPU. GTX 970 is more than 50% more powerful than GTX 960 if you judge by framerates at ultra settings. Hell, at 1080p it's more powerful than two 960s in SLI according to this benchmark from Techpowerup:
