I don't think it's worth it anyway. Get it when it's cheap on summer sale for example.

If you want a game for full price at the moment go for witcher instead.

Is it still a steaming pile of poo or does it run ok nowadays??  I did torrent it when it first came out but soon gave up due to it's optimization.

Depends on your GPU if you have a GTX780 or higher you will be able to run it but anything else will be un-playble without locking it to 30fps.

I just finished the game. While there are in my opinion significant improvements in gameplay, the performance made it really unappealing for me. At 1080p I had to turn the environment and texture settings down to high, which is 2 levels below the max to have playable frame rates. Even as a big Assassin's Creed fan, I have a hard time recommending this unless you have a really high end graphics card.

It really is a shame because I think it is an awesome game. The city is really well done, graphics look great on max, and the improvements in gameplay would have made it a really good game. They've made it so that you can't just spam counter and attack, which is quite refreshing. There is no option to use people as human shields when you are being shot and you will have multiple engaging you at the same time. This puts a lot more emphasis on stealth than in previous games. I also really liked that fact that they give you multiple options to complete missions. Hopefully they learned from Unity's mistakes and really hit it out of the park with their next iteration.
