Should I wait for Skylake?

Go to solution Solved by Marious,

Yeah but I can afford my motherboard. I suppose I'll just buy everything BUT my CPU and motherboard and just get those last. I also want to get an AMD 300 series card. I suppose I'll just have to see what prices are like.

That's the best way you can go now . Pick a new nice case for the new build (for my friend i got the Enthoo Pro, it's AWESOME AND BIG) just get all the other parts and do the cpu/mobo combo at the end. I'm on  socket 775 so yeaaahh i'll wait.

So I have started buying components for my new PC, I have my case and HDD so far. But those components don't exactly determine a PC and it's platform (X99, Z97, etc.) and with the release of skylake coming up soon I'm not sure if I should wait. By the time I have enough for my CPU Skylake should be released, but the CPUs socket may be different to my motherboard socket (LGA1150), or has the socket been released to the public? I'm not too up to date with this sort of thing.

So my question is, should I get a Z97 LGA1150 mobo and a 4690K or wait to see what skylake brings and get one of those CPUs?

Well, I don't have anywhere NEAR enough money to get my 4690K yet. and as said in the post by the time I have enough for it Skylake might be out.

Also, has the socket that skylake CPUs will use been released yet?

No, Skylake will use 1151 which will not launch until the CPU's launch.

What about platform for skylake? Will it be Z97 boards or will they release a new chipset with it?

Skylake will use the new Z170 chipset

Holy.

Do you know what prices will be like for the new motherboards and CPUs? Will a similarly priced skylake i5 need a really expensive motherboard?

Are the new skylake CPUs going to cost similar to the currenct gen CPUs?

Sorry, they arent releasd yet so its hard to find the price on them.

Edit 1. They will probably not cost much more than a z97 motherboard.

Haha, I just got my Phanteks Enthoo Pro :D

I will wait for Skylake. If it's too expensive I'll let it be.

Thanks everyone for the answers :D
