yes you can , you use the baseclock to overclock , just dont expect as high of an overclock as an unlocked k series

Hi I am trying to decide that whether or not if I should overclock a Xeon e3 1231 with a corsair h80i on an msi z97s sli krait edition.

Umm it is called a locked CPU for a reason.

Yes! you totally can! People say you cant but you can! You cant use multipliers Like K Chips so don't expect a HUGE jump. Maybe 5% Max. but still its an overclock!

It has a locked multiplier, so all you can do is adjust the BCLK. You can probably squeeze one or two hundred MHz out of it, but nothing that's likely to be thermally significant.
